Introduction:
The laboratory was set up by the delivery and installation of vital signal recording systems in the summer of 2003. In terms of the number of sensors as well as the recordable vital signals and dedicated space, this lab is unique not only at the university level but also at other similar labs. The main equipment available in this laboratory is the Vital Signal Recording System. The system comprises a diverse set of converters used to record biological parameters (including isometric and isotonic force converters, dynamometers, pressure piezoelectric converters, pH converters, thermistors and thermocouples, spirometers, gas analyzers, photo plethyserpler, Laser Photo Flethysmograph, Joint Plethysmograph. ..) and computerized recording systems which are suitable for receiving and storing these signals that can record up to 16 channels of input signal simultaneously. The equipment in the lab consists of 6 central blocks of the system that allow six separate groups to work together on different tests. Therefore, this laboratory, in addition to being a research facility, has the capability of teaching. Higher-channel recording systems, which are mainly used for whole-channel brain tape recordings, are also expected to further equip the laboratory.
The facilities in this lab, in addition to meetings held primarily to familiarize undergraduates with recording tools and critical signals, have also been used to provide data for a number of undergraduate, master's and doctoral projects. The most important of these are:
  • -   Six-channel ECG (XYZ standard) recording of about 40 subjects, for use in a master project aimed at automatic detection of “Ventricular Late Potentials” from the ECG.
  • -   Three-channel "ERP" registration (with EOG) of about 60 subjects for use in a doctoral project for the purpose of falsification using cognitive component "P300".
  • -   Design and manufacture of Doppler laser blood flow rate system.
  • -   Measurement of human motor system parameters.
  • -   Non-invasive measurement without the use of a continuous blood pressure cuff signal.
  • -   Measurement of respiratory system parameters.
  • -   Measurement of cardiovascular systems (exercise test, blood pressure, cardiac output).

In general, the main areas of activity of this laboratory include:

  • -   Biological signal processing
  • -   Diagnosis of cognitive brain activity
  • -   Manufacture of electronic equipment to record biological signals
  • -   And recording biological signals such as brain EEG and ...

However, projects such as image processing (sperm motility tracking) have also been carried out at the lab.
In other words, by dividing the lab's activities in terms of signal type, the following can be noted:
  • -   EEG: Including identifying people's emotions based on signals from the outer surface of the head, in order to diagnose depression, distinguish alertness from attention, diagnose people with ADHD (inadequate attention and hyperactivity disorder), and so on.
  • -   Improving the functioning of brain-computer systems by machine or computer to detect the thoughts of the disabled (or even healthy) and to improve their living standards.
  • -   Processing human imaginations to find movement or imagining speech and translate it into computer-understandable language.
These processes and the classification of human thought must also have an acceptable speed of detection, while having sufficient accuracy. For example, detecting one's perceptions of a signal taken from the outer surface of the head to move the wheelchair. It also uses EEG signals to detect deception or lying in interrogation processes.
  • -   Cardiovascular signals: Signal processing and classification of these signals to find or mark heart problems such as, cardiac arrhythmias or prediction of severe hypertension from ECG signals or sudden cardiovascular death.
  • -   EMG: Intravascular EMG signal decomposition
  • -   Environmental signals: Used in detecting deception and lying and detecting human emotions and emotions
  • -   Image Processing: path and analysis and movement of human sperm
