(Department)  Biomedical Engineering         (Division)      Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering

 (Level and Major)   Graduate

Course Title                Controlled Drug Delivery Systems

Number of Credits       3             Prerequisite

Course Description:
In this course, the concept of pharmaceutical agents (drugs), fundamental of pharmacokinetics as well as drug administration and delivery routes are introduced. Then, different methods of designing an advanced drug delivery systems as well as mechanisms of controlling drug release from the designed systems are reviewed. Finally, fundamentals of modeling approaches in designing a drug delivery system are discussed.

Course Goals and Objectives: Introduction to pharmacology and drug concepts, introduction to drug delivery mechanism and controlling delivery rate, introduction to advanced drug delivery systems. By the end of the course, students should be able to design a suitable carrier for a drug delivery system based on the desired administration rout and also optimize its effective parameters.
